What a great way to begin Father's Day weekend - with a retreat. It was rejuvenating for the both of us. No kids. No home selling burdens. We left all our troubles behind and it was just John and I and Jesus and the other retreatants. Pure tranquility! This year, the location was changed from Chicago to the University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Ill. The grounds were stunningly gorgeous and the Main Chapel (below) with it's neo-Georgian architecture was the perfect setting for a retreat.
We are already anticipating next year's retreat.
My first attempted photobomb ever was a great success. Lol! (Luckily, Beth is a great sport about such things. She has five grown boys and one girl of her own.) No one would have ever known that John and I had been sitting on the bench directly behind the statue of Mary and Jesus taking couple selfies when Beth was taking this photo....until I popped out.

After morning Mass on Sunday, Andrew treated the entire family to breakfast and then we headed to Smart Cow for frozen yogurt.
The girls did a fantastic job preparing shish kabobs (the Knight's special meal request) later that afternoon.
And the weekend ended with homemade strawberry shortcake layered with berries from the garden. (Why do I feel like our life revolves around food?) The Knight has some great kids. They spoiled their Daddy!!!

What a wonderful weekend! Happy Father's Day to Uncle John!!
ReplyDeleteWe were just talking about a retreat last night. It's been so long since we've been.
