Last week Thursday John pulled into the parking lot of my favoritist flower shop and told me to pick out flowers for Mother's Day - what a guy! He said he wouldn't get it right and he wanted me to be happy (read didn't want to hear me complain.) I could have stayed at the florists ALL day long. It was bursting with colorful and sweet-smelling flowers by the thousands and hanging baskets by the hundreds. It is a little bit of Europe. It was a difficult decision, but we kept going back to the jam packed window boxes outside the entrance that were blossoming with red petunias and honeysuckle - a gorgeous combination that would bloom throughout the summer - not just on Mother's Day. Plus they were super cheap; I thought they had mistakenly priced them.
Today I relocated them from the front porch to the back yard patio tables so I could enjoy them from the kitchen window. They received immediate attention from Augustine so I was told by one of my informers: "Mommy, Gus is sniffing the flowers and drinking the honey," said little Johnny in a tattletale voice. The latter part about the "honey" was of course an untruth unless Gus pretended to drink the nectar. Gussy is fond of teasing and Johnny likes to embellish stories. Whatever the case may be it made us all laugh!
They sound beautiful. I can't wait to see photos. It's definitely flower season!
