Johnny's First Haircut

I knew it was time to cut John's hair because of the frequent comments I get. I was not ready to part with his golden curls. (I love the infant Jesus look.) To others it's just long hair. To me it's an emotional tie to infancy and babies. It's a maternal thingy. I view baby's first haircut as a transition to a growing toddler. And that he is. I waited longer with Jean-Marie than all my other children because I do not have the distraction of another infant nor am I expecting. So I was mentally and emotionally postponing the toddler stage.

After
"I love you, mommy!" as he peeked around the camera to see me.
I showed Johnny what he looked like afterward in the mirror. He gazed very intently at himself with concern expressing, "My hair's all gone. You put it in the bag." (I always save a lock for their memory box.) "Yep, I saved it (one lock)." He than gave me a big squeeze of reassurance around my neck and caressed my hair.
