The Stockings Were Hung by the Chimney With Care...

...in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

St. Nicholas took time out of his busy schedule to visit the children of our parish this afternoon. (I was relieved he didn't bring along black peter to chastise any naughty children). The youngins are anticipating the St's visit tonight at Gemstone Trail while visions of sugarplums dance in their heads. (Sorry about the quality of the photos. I forgot the camera and John snapped a few pics on his cellphone.)

I stumbled upon this mommy's site while searching for photos of St. Nicholas. She presents a cute idea and personalized touch to the traditional coins given on St. Nicholas' Feast Day. I substituted the chocolate coins with the real thing because I refuse to purchase chocolate coins made in Israel. It seems to be the only kind they sell now in a lot of places. (Even if they weren't from Israel, I still wouldn't buy them because they taste like wax ~ sick ~ and yes, to answer your question mark bubble, I've chewed on a candle when I was little.)

If you click on her site on the words St. Nicholas Coins shortly after the third photo, you will be taken to a link she has created to share her work. There you can print off the images, cut them out and tape them to your coins. Since I used one inch real coins, I shrank the document to 70% prior to printing for a better fit (second time around).

I own an inexpensive camera and can't take up close shots. Let's just say they turned out just as cute as the ones she made which I've posted above. I think the chickadees will be pleasantly surprised tomorrow morning!

Next year I hope to incorporate these cookies into our Advent traditions. They look like fun with an added touch of simple dimple decorating! They have a plethora of cultural stuff too at the St. Nicholas Center.
PRAYER
Good St Nicholas,
Help us prepare for the miracle of the coming of Jesus.
Help us not to be blind to the gifts of getting ready.
Help us be sincere in the greetings we send and receive, with love and prayer.
Kind St. Nicholas, protect us from shoppers' fatigue, stress, overspending, yet help us to be kind and generous of heart to all, especially those who are alone, financially poor and fearful.
May our celebration of your feast lead others to see the true meaning of giving and receiving and to guide all people to the greatest of all gifts, Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace and Child of Mary, Our Lord and only Saviour. Amen.
