4th of July

The day started out with canoeing. We could really use two or three canoes. The kids have to take turns. It would be nice to go out as a family.

I'm glad I did not go along. The board that was supporting the canoe on the trailer snapped and fell off on the highway, missing the vehicle behind them. Heart attack! Thank God no one was injured. Luckily, it happened right near a construction site and there was a small board that the Knight was able to use to get them to Home Depot where he purchased the correct support needed to get back on the road. It pays to be an attentive driver. Had the people behind them not been paying attention it would have hit them and we'd most likely be looking at a lawsuit or insurance claim or worse. Angels work overtime in our family!

We had hoped to keep our tradition of eating elk burgers on the 4th. The knight googled "elk burgers in the Twin Cities" and scored a five star grill. He made reservations for our party of ten at 5 p.m. When we arrived my jaw dropped. There was door man sporting a tux with bow tie and top hat holding the door for us. Right then and there I decided this was not a bar and grill to eat greasy elk burgers. The tradition would end. Right then. I had him go cancel the reservations immediately. I could not fathom spending a months tuition on a meal. Gasp. We walked to our favorite pizza place, Cossetta's. A nice man was handing out free American flags and most of the kids grabbed one on the way in. We had an enjoyable meal. In the evening we watched fireworks at the Bielenberg. It was like night and day compared to the drunken debauchery in Green Bay. It was family friendly and no alcohol was served. Minnesota is a dry-er state. You can't buy intoxicating beverages at every gas station like in Wisconsin. People were actually peacefully watching the fireworks with their families and most were adorned with glowsticks that had been handed out for free by a local Lutheran Church promoting their religion with a  business card. St. Ambrose of Woodbury should try that next year:)
