I'm glad he noticed my cleaning abilities. That made me laugh.
A bookmark from Gussy. He said he picked out the best stamp from the choices at school. Sweet!
Blooms of messages of love from Gussy
Cupcakes from Andrew that he and Kathryn made at her house yesterday.
A poem from Francesca that she had to compose at school. She says, "It's cheesy."
Last stanza reads:
And so I will tell you that you are above
All other things I could possibly love
Hello there, Mr. Cardinal! I'm not certain if he was admiring his handsome reflection or wondering who I was. He and his wife have been hastily swooping back and forth ALL day between the neighbor's yard and ours. She's building a nest in a shrub in the back corner of our house. I certainly hope they stay despite all of the commotion around here. They were certainly in a hurry to finish it up. His wife didn't look quite as plump as I do. The robins are another story. They look just as uncomfortable as I am and I have 13 long weeks to go! You won't hear the birds complain. We can learn a lot from them.
Behold the birds of the air, for they neither sow, nor do
they reap, nor gather into barns: and your heavenly Father feedeth them.
Are not you of much more value than they? ~Matthew 6:26
Gabriel insisted I use my "real" camera to try to capture a better photo of Mr. Cardinal. I'm glad he was persistent about it. It really is a stately looking bird. I'm doubly glad the neighbors keep a fair supply of feed for these feathery friends. Our backyard is like an aviary. We have also seen yellow oriels on a daily basis, but they are much too fast, darting here and there, and I could not snap a photo of them while little people plastered their hands and nose to the window while scaring them away. The cardinals were a lot less flighty and friendlier. Cardinals sing a lovely song. That is what originally caught my attention earlier in the day. I learned that he does this to guard the territory while she is busy making the nest. I also learned that both parents feed nestlings. Young leave nest about 9-11 days after
hatching. Male may feed fledglings while female begins the next nesting
attempt. We are excited to see them! Can you tell?
This wooden rosary was given to Magdalena by Mother Marie Andrea. It was blessed by Pope Francis in Rome. The beads were dyed using rose petals. A thoughtful gift from Maggy!
A virtual card from Elizabeth at college. She was wishing me a Happy Mother's Day via a phone call this evening when a rainbow began to appear shortly into our conversation. John should be arriving there any minute with Francesca to pick her up from college. We are excited to welcome her home soon!
Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day! It looks like you had a lovely one.
ReplyDeleteWe've been enjoying a couple of cardinals in our backyard too. I'm surprised that they are still here this late into the spring.
You've inspired me to teach Isaac to write!!
What a lovely Mother's Day! We also have a cardinal couple in our backyard. I love them so much! The male one came within a couple feet of me while I was gardening yesterday. It was thrilling. I love the small things:-)
ReplyDeleteYour letters and gifts from the kids are just precious. Those homemade ones are my favorites!
We also made carrot cake this weekend. We must be on the same wave-length. Lol!
