Hodge Podge

"Woman's unhappiest moments are when she is unable to give; her most hellish moments are when she refuses to give." ~Fulton Sheen (If we ever have another boy we will name him Fulton. The saint is a gem!)

While I have not experienced the first part of that quote, I am often pals with the latter half and all I can say is thank God for the sacrament of confession. It is a new week and I am trying harder starting today. It is always easier for me to practice charity with my children when the sun shines in the sky - fact.

I am currently without a computer. Mine died a couple of weeks ago in April. I'm using John's tablet and it is not compatible with my camera's SD card. I would love to share recent photos, but this won't happen until I find a new computer within the next month. Hopefully sooner than later. I'm having cyberspace withdrawals.;-)

John's sisters stayed over on Friday and joined half a thousand other pilgrims on the Walk to Mary yesterday. (We hope to make the pilgrimage next year.) The siblings shared the joy of reminiscing over their Dad's old important papers and a few photos.

We had lots of fun blowing bubbles with the kiddos this afternoon. We are watching our Godson Jacob today and tomorrow. His mama, my sister Amelia, is in the final stretch of getting her degree as an RN and will graduate on June 1st. I. am. so. very. proud. of. her!!!

We have a mommy robin sitting on four beautiful blue eggs out front our bathroom window, only you have to look into her nest from the second story to catch a view of her eggs.

We have a naughty Peter Rabbit hopping around the grounds that burrows under our backyard storage area. This winter it feasted on one of last summer's newly replanted shrubs and nibbled branches off of several others. The bunnies are really getting to be a nuisance. We may have to put up fencing around everything next fall.

The girls begin traditional ballet in a few weeks. They are super excited! Elizabeth took ballet when she was little but had to discontinue because she kept getting pain in her feet. Francesca has been working diligently over the past year doing exercises that enable her to do the splits. It hurts my eyes to watch and makes me cringe to see her do them, but I am very impressed with her diligence. That is a major accomplishment! Her flexibility will be beneficial in ballet. Doesn't every girl want to wear a pink tutu at some point in life even if it's only for eight weeks one summer;-)

And lastly, Gabriel is registered with a local Catholic Middle School that I think we will be really happy with. Francesca picked out her classes this week at her new Catholic High School that I am not as thrilled with, but that is our only option. There is another Catholic High School in a neighboring city that made the top fifty faithful Catholic Schools list that I'd love to send her to, but it is simply too far to drive darn it. I so wish it were like the fifty's when the Catholic schools were bursting with nuns teaching and oozing catholicity. We live in tough times.

Phew! All for now. Happy Sunday!

  1. Think of how cheap tuition would be with all the religious teaching too!

  2. It was sooooo good to see all of you and catch up on things! Thanks for letting us stay over on Friday night. It helped make walking easier on Saturday. And thanks for the yummy breakfast and supper. I hope everything goes okay with the school changes. It will be an adjustment. Ballet sounds great! Em was in ballet one year a long time ago. It was fun but we didn't keep up with it. She liked sports and scouts too and we couldn't do it all. I still want to try to make it to Door County sometime (hopefully during cherry picking season) and maybe we can stop in along the way. We'll see how it works out with the schedules. I'm looking forward to "Walk to Mary" next year and will try to do the whole 21 miles. I have a whole year to get in shape.

  3. Ditto on that hospitality Mary! It was so nice to finally see your new place and visit with all of you. Mary Ann must be in better shape than me, as I had blisters on both feet by the 4th mile, but I didn't take the shuttle (not when there were 72 yr olds on this walk!) I think if I had started out with 2 pair of socks I would not have had any. Will know better next year. Wierd, my hands got sunburned and started peeling yesterday.

I missed John's yummy breakfast waking up this morning! And freshly ground coffee beans, mmmmm! What a sendoff!

Maybe I'll get some more of us there next year. I'll have to find time to do long walking often to do the whole 21 miles. It ended up being a beautiful day and we thoroughly enjoyed it! I love being with people who love Our Blessed Mother. It makes me feel so hopeful for the future.

    Love to all,

    Jean
