Picking cherries is a REALLY fun time for families of any age, shape or size. Yesterday, the troops jaunted up to Cherryland USA (aka Door County) to do some pickin'. I highly recommend this trip to anyone.
Lautenbach's Orchard Country Winery & Market of Door County is by far our family favorite. This 100 acre orchard offers events all year long from assorted fruit picking, festivals, wine tasting, to trolley rides, and winter sleigh rides. In addition, they provide lined pails to harvest with and when finished you return the pail, upon which they double bag your fruit to take the cherries home. They also have an accommodating and friendly staff. We picked so many cherries they offered to box ours as a courtesy. All this for a great bargain of $6 per pail ~ well worth the cost.
Once home we survived a harvest and freeze assembly line of 100 pounds of cherries; once processed it was the equivalent of 33 frozen quarts and 2 gallons of juice. The labor is well worth the effort ~ we enjoy a taste of summer during the extended wintry Wisconsin months. And in our home their is nothing better than Cherry cobbler to warm our palate... especially sharing it with my favorite people...family.♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
