The Verdict?

Mother's Day is always a much anticipated day as I await the little hand made love notes transcribed by each of my children. This year was a bit different. Aside from the usual writings, I received a most unusual bouquet of flowers. Unusual in the sense, that I was bewildered that my 2 teenage sons had darted out on their bicycles for what seemed a fleeting moment of time and returned with a lovely bouquet of flowers for their mother, yours truly. At first I was a bit troubled, and began tracing the map of our subdivision in my mind of the neighboring homes. Nope, I don't recall any such flowers planted in the neighbors yard....then it occurred to me....aha....the endangered Large White Trillium species growing down the road. It's Latin name alone sounds holy. Then the interrogation began...."Um, boys, these are just beautiful, did you pick them out of the neighbors' garden?" I asked. Answer, "Nope." "Are they wild flowers?" I further ask. "Yep," they reply. "Where did you find them;in the ditch down the road?" Reply, "Sort of." "Did anyone see you pick the flowers?" "Nope." "Oh good," I respond. By this time I'm feeling like an accomplice that needs to step into the confessional line by probing such questions. I've now stepped into their territory of the end justifying the means. I snap out of it. Do I punish them or hug them? I can see it now......

"Extra, extra, read all about it!" Home school mother of 8 incarcerated on charges of failure to release names of delinquent children whom plucked endangered trillium species from neighbor's forest. Mother won't be released by bond until further interrogation of children reveals guilty party. Upon acknowledgment of the crime, child will be sentenced to write a term paper of no less than 100,000 words of Why Peter Piper Picked of Peck of Endangered Trillium! Furthermore, child will be required to perform 500 hours of community service for trespassing of which will include but not limited to scrubbing public toilets with a toothbrush.

PS The strawberry shortcake was home made and it's payed for....ahem.

  1. Endangered or not, they certainly are beautiful! And what a thoughtful gift. The planter also is very pretty. And that cake looks yummy! Glad you had a nice Mother's Day.
PS: Nice updated pictures of the kids on the side.
