You know you have eight children when.....the golden moment of silence occurs and your ears are ringing. You should be enjoying this rarity, but there is a constant faraway ringing in your ears. A sign.....hearing loss. Doesn't this normally come later? Much later. Say maybe when I'm approaching a riper age of 80? As the size and hullabaloo of our family increases, my hearing decreases. After pleading with Papageno for a practical Birthday gift these past years, he finally took me seriously. These noise-abating mufflers were found on my nightstand last month ~ an overdue gift.
Ahhhhh, to be a witness to the puzzled looks I get from passers-by! Yes, they're even worn in our bus while driving.
I used to love to "hear silence" occasionally when the kids were little. It's not that noisy anymore at home, but I still like silence occasionally, especially after a day at the hospital when all the monitors have been going off all shift. It just gives you a sense of peace, and you feel like you can recharge and get a grip on things.
ReplyDeleteI have Susie Lloyd's first book and it is so funny! I can't wait to read this latest one. I'm not sure if I'm losing my hearing yet. Or if maybe I'm just learning to "tune them out". Our house is definitely getting noisier and noisier:-)
